Fees are never based on the size of your refund. You pay for the work involved, not a percentage of what you get back.
What can raise the price
- Multiple businesses or rental properties
- Disorganized or incomplete records (bookkeeping cleanup may be needed first)
- Prior-year or amended returns
- Sales of property, investments, or business assets during the year
How to save on fees
- Bring every form at once instead of in pieces
- Keep business and personal spending in separate accounts
- Use monthly bookkeeping so year-end is already done
